Q: How is a personal chef service different from your typical catering service?
A personal chef, or catering service executes all food preparation from within the client's own personal kitchen, while your typical or “mobile” catering company usually prepares food off-site in a commercial location and transfers the prepared food to the client's location. All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group can fortunately offer both styles of catering services, however, all personal chef services are still carried out in the client's private kitchen. 

Q: What is the difference between a “personal” chef service and a “private” chef service?
A “personal” chef performs services in a variety of ways to multiple clients per week cooking weekly meals or catering in-home parties, while a “private” chef will perform chef services in many different dimensions for one particular client, usually living-in with other hospitality staff. All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group provides both types of services since we specialize in both of these in-home catering services.

With our in-home catering and personal chef services we do the shopping for the ingredients, perform all of the services in your private or personal kitchen with nearly all of the components of our dishes completely from scratch and co-ordinate the clean up. Q: How can I save more money with All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group?
We offer 25% discounts for existing clients whom provide a testimonial on our online comment card  that we may publish on our website and other print material. Only one testimonial per client will be accepted. You will also receive 25% off the next time you decide to book with us just by referring new clients such as friends or family members to our service which eventually leads to a confirmed booking. In addition to receiving discounts by referring friends and family as well as providing your publishable comments on our site and print material, you may also “bundle” the cost of your menu and, or service package together with a neighbor, friend, colleague or loved one and divide or share the service. Whether it be sharing the costs of a private dinner party, or you have someone living close by that is willing to divide the costs of the weekly meals through our traditional personal chef service, we can arrange it.

How it all works

Q: Where do we get started?
First, you need to go to the request a quote form on our website and fill out the required fields and submit it to us. From there you will either be contacted via telephone or by e-mail by either Chef James Green or one of our other chefs to arrange an appointment to view the area where the services will be carried out and meet with you in person. We will then discuss menu options and once an agreement is made, you will be billed for a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the booking and the non-refundable remainder of the booking will be taken 7 days prior to your scheduled booking date. We accept payments online through PayPal, cheques, money orders as well as cash.

Q: Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. Pots, pans, knives, cooking utensils and other equipment are provided by All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group.

Q: Do you charge me for equipment and supply rentals for in-home catering services?
Not always. In most cases, we will not charge you for equipment and supplies needed for the food services at your in-home catered event. This varies depending on the size and scale of your specific needs, and, or your event. This will always be discussed prior to any final agreements being made.

Q: Where do you prepare the meals?
Due to local health regulations all meals and food prepared by anyone representing our company and service must prepare and handle all food in the client's own personal or private kitchen, unless it is a catered event of more than 50 persons, or we deem it necessary due to some menu preparation times carried out in a rented commercial kitchen. There are added benefits to having your meals prepared from the start to finish in your private kitchen is the food stays fresher, you know how the food was prepared, are left with a clean kitchen and in most cases you are left with some extra groceries in the fridge.

Q: Where do you get your groceries from for your in-home catering and personal chef services?
We try our best to obtain the freshest organic ingredients whenever and wherever possible either from general local suppliers, specialty suppliers or wholesalers. While our traditional personal and private chef services are based on a “fee plus” rate structure where you pay a flat fee for the actual service, then we shop for the groceries and bill you for what we pay, most of our in-home catering services are all inclusive and are based on “per person” rates. For the traditional personal and private chef services, after the consultation and we have decided on what your specific needs are and have established a general idea for a menu we will then compile a shopping list, pick up your groceries on the date of your booking and bring them directly to your home so we can get cooking and leave you with the left-over groceries for future use.

Q: Can you use items from my kitchen if I let you?
Yes. This is a great idea to keep the bill down on your groceries, especially for traditional personal and private chef services where the “fee plus” rate system applies. Also, allowing the use of your food items in your kitchen for any in-home catering services can also lower the per person rate, but only for select services at our discretion. We do, however, require the use of your common built-in kitchen equipment, such as your cooler or refrigerator, stove top, oven and sink areas for all of the services that we provide. 

Q: How much space do I need to have for you to cook in my home, or office’s kitchen?
Although it really all depends on the scale of the menu you have either selected or customized with us, all we really need is a space for cutting boards, groceries, equipment and that is basically it. Before we arrive to perform services we kindly ask that you please have the area we have agreed with you to work in be as ready and clear of anything that may interfere with us getting started quickly on getting to work on your menu. 

Q: How long does it take to complete the services?
Both personal chef and in-home catering event services can last anywhere from 3-8 hours, however, are all dependant on what your requirements will be on the scheduled date of your booking. Traditional private chef services can last anywhere from 8 to12 hours per day with live-in accommodations from the client provided. Please contact us for more information.

Q: Can I make my own menu with the things I love and have you make them for me?
Of course...this is what we’re all about! We can always customize a personal menu for you, your family, or group of friends or business colleagues. You can’t get that type of service in a restaurant.

Q: Do you make everything from scratch?
Everything is made from scratch whenever possible and wherever possible and is another benchmark in what we do and what All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group stands for – bringing home-made food back into the home. We also do not use MSG, trans fats, sauce/stock bases and nitrates or sulfites. Due to usually lengthy preparation times, most pastry items and all Artisan breads are purchased from specialty bakeries and pastry shops within the lower mainland, however, at times are made in your home. Dough’s and pastries (all dependant on type) may be purchased already prepared for us and we simply finish the assembly of the product in your kitchen. The reason why we buy most pastries and Artisan breads “bought-in” is due to the fact that some of these dough’s and pastries take sometimes 2-3 days to proof and in the end is just too time-consuming. So basically, assigning specialty pastry chefs and bakers from outside sources to handle your pastries and baked goods will allow us to focus on the level of quality that needs to be put into the preparation of your meals.

Q: Do you have liability insurance?
Yes, Chef James Green, the owner and proprietor of All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group as well as employees and private contractors working under the company's name are all insured for general/commercial liability.

Q: Are you a licensed personal chef and catering service?
Yes, All Around Personal Chef & Catering Group (trading as All Around Personal Chef Services) is licensed by The Town of Gibsons on British Columbia’s beautiful Sunshine Coast and is registered with the British Columbia Corporate Registry.
